Miniaturization, integration and energy efficiency are key drivers of modern photonics

Photonics has evolved from a niche activity into a Key Enabling Technology and is now heralded as one of the most important industries of the future.

Optics and Photonics activities at Leti focus mainly on major industrial markets for these technologies including:

  • All-wavelength imaging (visible, infrared, THz)
  • Information displays
  • Solid-state lighting
  • Optical data communications
  • Optical environmental sensors

Similarly to microelectronics, the principal criteria driving Leti's photonic developments are miniaturization, integration and energy efficiency.

Following its internal roadmaps, Leti develops photonic technologies, devices and systems addressing society's major challenges, more specifically innovative and secure society, resource efficiency and well-being. Our R&D projects merge fundamental research with advanced technological and industrial developments. We interrelate nanosciences with material sciences, optics, electronics and micro- & nano-fabrication.
