Miniaturization, integration and energy efficiency are key drivers of modern photonics

Photonics has evolved from a niche activity into a Key Enabling Technology and is now heralded as one of the most important industries of the Future Optics and Photonics activities at CEA-Leti focus mainly on major industrial markets for these technologies including:
  • All-wavelength imaging (Gamma and X rays, visible, infrared, THz)
  • Information displays
  • Optical data communications
  • Optical environmental and 3D sensors
Similarly to microelectronics, the principal criteria driving CEA-Leti's photonic developments are miniaturization, integration and energy efficiency. Following its internal roadmaps, CEA-Leti develops photonic technologies, devices and systems addressing society's major challenges, more specifically health and well-being, mobility, information and communication technologies, digital transition, security, space exploration. Our R&D projects merge fundamental research with advanced technological and industrial developments. We interweave nanosciences, optics, microelectronics, advanced nano-fabrication, integration and packaging, while accounting for system requirements
